For the 40th anniversary of Earth Day in 2010, the world is in greater peril than ever, but there is also unprecedented opportunity to build a new future. Earth Day has the power to bring about historic advances in climate policy, renewable energy and green jobs and catalyze millions who make personal commitments to sustainability - A Billion Acts of Green™ – mobilizing the power of people to create change by taking small steps in our homes, our schools and our businesses that add up to an enormous collective action.

Earth Day 40 is a pivotal opportunity for people, corporations, and governments to join together to create a global green economy. Our coordinated efforts now will be recognized by future generations as a turning point.

Global Days of Service – April 17-18, 2010

imageoneThe Global Days of Service will feature Volunteer Actions by tens of thousands of global participants, from April 17 – 18, 2010. These projects in parks, beaches, schools and forests will focus on climate change solutions like tree planting, energy efficiency retrofits, water protection, urban gardens and forest restoration. Produced with the help of Earth Day Network, along with local community organizations and governments, the activities will address current challenges and will help cities and organizations streamline their energy needs, and ‘green up’ their communities. Suitable for individuals of all ages, including children and families, these activities encourage active lifestyles and healthful living, while also connecting volunteers with the green solutions.

Volunteer activities will be quantified though our events registration tool and carried out through our local partners around the world. Click here to sign up as a partner!

Generating a Billion Acts of Green™

By inspiring Volunteer Actions, Earth Day Network looks forward to generating A Billion Acts of Green™ around the world! We want you to register not only planned community events for Earth Day, but also your individual actions – your personal "Act of Green"-- be it changing your light bulbs for more energy-efficient styles, buying a hybrid car or building a native plant garden. Feeling generous? Perform your own "Act of Green" and then link to it from the social network of your choice—let your friends catch onto the excitement of Earth Day 2010.

One of Earth Day Network’s stated goals is to expand and broaden the environmental movement. In keeping with that mission, Earth Day Network will plan a number of small- and large-scale events in the African-American, Latino, and faith-based communities in the United States. We will also partner with organizations to support refugee camp clean-ups, small water projects, and toxic clean-ups.

A Global Day of Action: April 22, 2010 – The Green Generation™ Takes Action

After you’ve performed your Act of Green, count yourself among the billion around the globe to join a movement. Then, use your collective force – as members of The Green Generation™ – to take action around a single platform focused on global warming, renewable energy and a new green economy.

In the US, Earth Day Network will also convene its network partners representing key constituencies for a global day of action where people around the world contact their government about the need for solutions to climate change.

Earth Day Network will also organize 2,000 campus events around the world - including rallies, tabling, petition signing, and round-table discussions. Can’t come to an event? Let your fingers do the talking: We’ll also be doing a campus sms campaign to get millions of students to “Text for Tomorrow.”

A Global Day of Celebration – April 25, 2010

To observe the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, and mark the achievements made by the Global Days of Service and Global Day of Action, Earth Day Network will organize 40 major city events around the globe. The flagship event will be held on the National Mall in Washington, DC, but twenty of the events will be coordinated by Earth Day Network in major cities such as Washington DC, London, Mumbai and Sydney, with an additional 20 events presented by partner organizations in cities such as Rio de Janeiro, Beijing, Tokyo, and Barcelona.
