Earth Week 2008;
The Environmental Coalition student organization at Virginia Tech to host 5th Annual Earth Week. The objectives of this event are to raise awareness and to spread knowledge of environmental issues affecting our local community. List of events include guest speakers, local business and student organization fair on drillfield, "green" field games, mountain top removal awareness and conservation efforts, tree plantings/local area cleanups and more (see below)!
Sunday April 20th
• 11am: co-sponsored SEEDS’ Stroubles Creek clean up
Monday, April 21st
• 1pm: Marilyn Brown from Energy Speaker Series
• 4pm: Misty Gregg “The Real Dirt On Clean”
Tuesday, April 22nd
• Advertise (small) in CT
• 10am-3pm: Earth Day Fair on drillfield (set up at 9am and break down from 3-4pm)
• 5pm: Green Effect Rally II
• 730pm: Frank Harmon “Green Architecture” in Squires 341/345
Wednesday, April 23rd
• 12-1pm: co-sponsored APO duck pond clean up
• 2-4pm: Green Field Day on drillfield (rain location Squires 341/345)
• 7pm: Josh Tulkin “Evolution Of The Youth Climate Movement” in Whittemore 300
Thursday, April 24th
• Mountain Justice day--all day
• “Conservation Day”
• 10am-4pm: MJ tabling with Concerned Citizens of Giles County and The Beehive Collective in front of Newman Library
• 4pm: Panel Discussion with CCGC in Squires 345
• 7pm: “Friends Of The Mountains” Larry Gibson and The Beehive Collective in Torg 3100
Friday, April 25th
• 9-11am: Tree Planting on drillfield- 12 trees with 50+ people (half in morning, half in afternoon)
• 1-3pm: Tree Planting II
• 430pm: Denny Cochrane “Sustainability at VT: How We Are Inventing The Right Future” in Squires 341/345
