As Municipal Recycling Coordinator and Clean Communities Coordinator for the City of Clifton, NJ, Alfred (AL) Dubois is not the typical Climate Change Educator. Instead of teaching at one school, he reaches all of Clifton’s 78,000 residents by speaking at schools, organizations, and events. Some of his activities include: coordinating Earth Day, leading sustainable shopping tours, and speaking to students about composting, recycling, and energy. His efforts in the City of Clifton have helped the city to reduce 293.14 metric tons of carbon equivalent (MTCE) in 2006.
In collaboration with EDN, Al selected Pioneer Academy of Science and Christopher Columbus Middle School for a CO2 reduction program that entails recycling textiles and batteries and creating an outdoor garden space. Once recycling numbers have been tallied, Al will calculate the carbon emissions reduced using EPA's Waste Reduction Model (WARM) tool.
