These groups contributed to the "Green Makeover" at Merrick Academy through their products, services, and also with their participation at the Earth Fair.
Air Quality Sciences (AQS) - Considered the most “respected name in indoor air quality testing and consulting,” AQS donated testing kits to determine the air quality of the school both before and after the living wall.
Council on the Environment of New York City (CENYC) - This non-profit encourages green spaces, recycling, waste reduction, and manages the largest farmer’s market in the country. CENYC representatives attended the Earth Fair at Merrick, educated students about recycling,and assessed the school for rainwater harvesting.
Manhattan Plant - Installed and provided the “living wall” at the school, which will purify air at the rate of 300-500 ft3 per minute. It will also help the school saves 20% on energy costs.
National Gardening Association - Provided the greenhouse and gardening supplies for the school.
The Panorama of My Silence Heart Café – This vegetarian café provided organic lunches for participants, staff, and teachers.
Queens Botanical Garden - Conducted composting workshop with students at Earth Fair.
