Beyond providing resources to environmental educators, Earth Day Network (EDN) strives to further local states, and national policies that create healthier and greener schools for everyone.
In November of 2007, EDN pledged to work with national partners to green all of America’s schools within a generation. This includes promotion of green facilities, environmental and outdoor curricula and healthy organic cafeteria meals. On the local level, we helped to earn the passage of a $1 billion green school refurbishment bond in Cincinnati public schools through our National Civic Education Project. On the federal level, EDN worked to ensure a bipartisan vote in the House of Representatives for the 21st Century Green High Performing Public School Facilities Act (H.R. 3021), a bill that provides money for green building projects at needy districts and schools.

EDN is also helping to lead a coalition to pass the No Child Left Inside Act, which would formalize environmental education as a national standard and create statewide environmental literacy plans. We will continue our work on all levels of policy implementation, including the upcoming reauthorization of the federal Child Nutrition Programs. Help us gear policies toward healthier, cleaner, and greener schools.
