Earth Day is still almost two months away, but the city is already working on some green ideas for Londoners.
There's a push on to declare Earth day -- coming up April 22nd -- plastic bag free day here in London.
Controller Gina Barber and Councillor Judy Bryant are behind the push. They say plastic bags are clogging landfills and doing other damage before they even get there clogging drains and causing flooding, even hurting wildlife who sometimes choke on them.
In fact, Barber says she has received twice as many letters from Londoners about the excessive use of plastic bags than any other issue in the past year.
The environment and transportation committee is expected to endorse the idea at a meeting later today.
