GREENING THE SCHOOL |
| |
Last year as part of EDN Hands on Earth Day 2007, volunteers from the community united to install a green roof on McDonogh 15. Green roofs like this one help insulate temperatures in the school building, convert CO2 gasses and improve wastewater runoff issues. This year, Elijah and his students are researching ways to get solar power for the school. |

In September, students Nick Conners and Ogunsola Akinlana attended a KIPP student leadership conference in California. While in attendance they submitted a KIPP school improvement proposal to reduce waste, begin recycling in the school and reuse materials to produce artwork. The students were one of four selected projects that received the grant award and you can read about their project by clicking here. |

While mold and water damage was one of the main concerns addressed at the revamping of the school after the flooding of hurricane Katrina, teacher Elijah Sproles is pursuing indoor air quality tests at McDonogh to ensure that the school remains a healthy and clean learning environment for the students.
