As guests at this miraculous site, we were able to contribute in our own way to its reforestation. Each of us was given at least two palm seedlings, and as we made our way up the trail, we planted the seedlings along the way. With the help of our guides and park rangers, we strategically placed the palms along the trail. Here is a photograph of my friend Paulo planting his tree on the edge of the path. These contributions were more symbolic than anything else, but it was amazing to feel as though you had some how become apart of this tremendous forest. “When I go into the garden with a spade, and dig a bed, I feel such an exhilaration and health that I discover that I have been defrauding myself all this time in letting others do for me what I should have done with my own hands.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson |
