The park rangers also have the very important job of trail maintenance. This is specifically important because of all the rainfall and intricate water systems within the park. To avoid erosion of the trails, they build steps out of found pieces of wood. These steps decrease the amount of erosion that occurs by acting as a barrier to catch much of the soil on its way down. This is beneficial for two reasons: the first being the shape of the hiking trail is maintained. Scondly, plants and their web of routs are nature’s way of preventing erosion, so since trails are routinely cleared of plants this process helps maintain the soils integrity. “Nature, to be commanded, must be obeyed” ~ Francis Bacon |
