9) Sign/Rocks: “I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.” One of the traditions of the Reserve is represented in this photograph. Each visitor picks up a rock along the path and places in a pile in an opening near Thoreau’s actual cabin’s hearth, seen in the top right corner of the photograph. The next frame will better explain the foundation site. |
